They All Wore Pearls

January 12, 2012 - February 25, 2012

The thirteen works of this new series by Neva Mikulicz, are collectively entitled “They All Wore Pearls." With one exception, these finely detailed drawings depict women in a variety of situations and roles. The images, based on photographs found by the artist in family albums and archives alike, return to a Baby Boomer childhood in the USA of the 1950s. Each photograph acquires a nearly ineffable unease once rendered by her pencil, and it is in this tension that the artist finds her distinct voice.
