Anya Tish Gallery is delighted to present the second Houston solo exhibition of work by Begona Egurbide, one of a new generation of innovative European female photographers, whose work challenges the conventions of standard photography using a process called lenticular photography, applying a fractural lens to the surface of a series of layered images.

Precipice comprises of a series of kinetic photographs that explore the complex discourse between themes of critical experience and memory. The images are both confrontational and sexual, depicting female figures moving within a state of flux between the seen and the unseen, the conscious and the unconscious. The works rely on a necessary dialogue between the viewer and the photograph, creating a complex narrative that explores the viewer’s own subjectivity in relation to Egurbide’s compelling imagery of reconciliation. The viewer must physically interact with the photographs in order to breathe life into the women, allowing them to revisit and challenge the conventions of the quintessential through the climatic moment of choice.
